It took a couple of months, but we finally had some weekend sunshine! Everything is so much better when the rain holds off for a bit. I don’t want to jinx it (and wouldn’t be entirely surprised if it suddenly snowed or something) but could this be the start of spring?..
Tuesday: I did some intervals this week; a few different shuttle variations, on grass and carrying weight (mainly med balls). I found them pretty difficult but they were definitely good for building leg strength, which is something I really need to work on at this stage. I’m going to be trying to get more leg work into my gym sessions, as the miles are building and my legs are starting to feel it. Quadzilla will be making a comeback! 😁
Wednesday: 3 miles on the treadmill. Managed negative splits of 8:50, 8:24 and 8:01 – sooo close to a sub-8:00 mile! I’d LOVE to be able to average a mile or more at 7-something. But I also love not feeling super uncomfortable and running fast is… super uncomfortable, so we’ll see 😅

Sunday: I headed to Woking for the Surrey Half this week – my first race in aaages. I’ve done this one every year since it started, except for one year when I was away, and it’s definitely my favourite. I’ll be posting a proper race report in a few days so I’ll keep it brief here, but I managed to run the whole thing with NO walking breaks (first time for me) and I managed a massive 11-minute PB of 2:03:43! Sooo happy with that 😁 I feel like a sub-2:00 is finally on the cards!

I did have a weird issue during the half though – my lower quad (just one side) and towards the top of the knee kept getting really weak and nearly buckling. I fuelled and hydrated as usual, and it didn’t feel sore or anything (though the hip flexor on that side was pretty tight). But I’ve honestly never had anything like this happen before. If anyone can shed some light on this I’d appreciate it?
Next weekend I’m going to be heading back onto the North Downs Way, and giving the Guildford-Dorking stretch a go. I’m definitely going to be walking some of the hills, but I’m excited to get exploring again. Mud and hills and pretty views please!
